Valentines Day Massacre
A win for the good guys! Those nasty leukaemic cells seem to have been flattened. Sparkling blood result with all counts back into normal range! I had a glass of prosecco last night to celebrate...and a quiet jump for joy. Residue problems still to deal with though - need an MRI scan for my back and neck due to constant pins and needles in my legs... plus an appointment with the dizzy clinic due to frequent attacks of vertigo (very alarming). Last friday I had to endure an extremely painful steroid injection for my frozen shoulder - which has given me a little more movement, but still unable to get my hand/arm over my head or out to my side. Due to a lot of armpit pain I am now under the care of breast clinic (had a mammogram yesterday - well sort of one, not possible to achieve it all due to limited range of arm movement) who are going to investigate further. So its still watch this space. I long for my continual trips into Guys to draw to a close, but I will be topping up my oyster card for a while yet... hope everyone good - I know a few people still read this blog! Thanks Tony, TM, Maggie and MIranda, Chrg and Loulou (hows nepal?) for messages - always great to hear from you. Will be back in two weeks with an update. Meantime I have snowdrops and crocuses in the garden. Spring just a moment away... Ciao tutti

Great news Tess. Still some hangers on to deal with, as you say. Here's to your courage and spirit (clink, clink)
ReplyDeleteExcellente - may you drink many more proseccos! Pipx
ReplyDeleteTessa,
ReplyDeleteYippeeeee! I'm sorry you're still in pain and having to deal with more indignities at the hospital, but good news is good news is good news! That and the fact that you have crocuses and snowdrops is music to my ears. No bulbs here yet, but it looks like we'll have enough of of a thaw that most of the snow should be gone by the end of the week. I have visions of vegetables dancing in my head, but they will not be a reality for a good while!
Much much love. You really made my day with the good report!
XOXOXOXOXO

Mmmm…Prosecco with a nice Vongole. It'll soon be Rosé season again in East Dulwich with Lordship Lane eateries and drinkeries spilling out onto the pavements. Last week Alix, Tilly, Kellie, Jamie and I went out to Taz in the Cut. Simsy was meant to join us but he was called away to crisis drinks at the Prince Albert with Roni and some of the other Faculty Management. Apparantly BOS didn't go well. I'm no longer the QM and I had to teach so couldn't go. Joan Burks is retiring next week but she is going out in a blaze of flames by all accounts. There isn't really a Faculty anymore. The administration is geared more towards programme clusters. I am in the Postgraduate Programme. Anyway, back to Taz. Tilly, Kellie and Jamie shared a vegetarian mezze. I know! Sounds disgusting but actually it looked great. Lots of deep frying. I insisted that the vegetarians keep their vegetables clear of the meat as it could contaminate it. Alix had a lamb shish with couscous. I had a steak in creamy pepper sauce. The sauce had mushrooms, mini leeks and onions. I could have had a bowl of that alone. It came with fries and crunchy red cabbage. Wonderful! Washed down with a couple of glasses of house red and the obligatory sambucca to finish proceedings. Kellie forgot to pick up her change and therefore paid more than the rest of us. Binky! I had been to Taz recently with Martin Ashley and had enjoyed it so a return visit was in order. Martin orders water, lemon and ice separately so he can mix it himself. And he ended the evening ordering a bowl of a variety of ice creams but asked the staff to choose for him! This weekend I am going for something more modest. Salade Nicoise served with olive ciabatta and raspberries and greek yogurt for afters.
ReplyDeleteTilly, Alix and I have been watching Baking Made Easy by an ex-model turned domestic goddess. Tilly switched off when the first instruction was to lay out your utensils neatly. Not related but here is a nice website about organising things neatly (http://thingsorganizedneatly.tumblr.com/). I baulked when Baking Made Easy came up with parmesan ice lollies! Good grief leave that stuff to Heston. I'm sticking with my steak and chips.
This week I'll be at the London School of Economics. We do a collaborative elective with their research students. We are launching this year's elective with a presentation from their staff and students and an exhibition of posters from both LSE and LCC. The event will be on the 8th floor of their new academic. LSE is very very posh, very corporate, everything is very neat and tidy. Money dripping off the walls. It's been a tad bit stressful getting everything together but hopefully it will be a good evening.
Hope the last couple of weeks has been good and looking forward to your next post.
Tony
