final dates...
Spent the last week very slow: rebuilding blood counts, trying to put on some weight and sleeping lots. Sandwiched inbetween all that, visits to the day unit... today been given date for final chemo (hoo-bloody-rah), which will be on Thursday - plus bone marrow test on wednesday morning. At last. The end is finally on the horizon. One more bout of poison. If all goes to plan, my litres of chemo will be administered over 5 days, so I should be outta the hospital by next monday or tuesday - then wait for neutrophils to drop and immune system to fall to ground zero, and then the long haul back up. One more minefield to cross. Hopefully there will be no dramatic temperatures or infections, and I wont having to keep rushing back into hospital at midnight.. I have inner ear viral infection - so get horribly dizzy, especially when lying down - but hospital dont seem too concerned. I am just chalking it up as yet another complaint on my ever increasing list! I hope to God all these ailments will pass soon and be forgotten. Bright autumn day. Red russet leaves and sharp blue sky. Lots of planes criss-crossing over London, leaving skies full of lingering vapour trails. I dream of somewhere far away. Hope everybody fine and dandy - I am wondering what weather is like in sydney / singapore / italy and ohio... ciao tutti

Weather in Ohio? You want it you got it! Yesterday was GORGEOUS! Warm - more than 20* warmer than normal for this time of year - and a bright blue sky against which the orange leaves were so brilliant. I spent the day inside and out, planting bulbs, delivering birthday thank-you notes to neighbors, reading the paper, and watching the local no-hope NFL team beat the pants off a New Orleans team they were not expected to compete against. Twas a very nice day.
ReplyDeleteToday was still warm, but rainy. That's OK. gave me a chance to make some very good soup and take care of paperwork, and finally order a Kindle. My parents gave it to me for my birthday. Now I just have to decide on a case and a light. Too many options!!!
I hope you're feeling better, and that your spirits are buoyed for the last fight. It must be so hard to know what's ahead and yet still do it. I'll be thinking of you my dear!
I'm off to heat the soup and pry that man I live with away from his computer long enough to eat dinner. The soup is an everything but the kitchen sink affair. A lovely kind of beans I'd never heard of (yellow steubens), ham stock, celery, carrots, leeks, chard and tomatoes from the garden. Smelled fantastic in the kitchen all day. I think my philosophy in life might be summed up as "If you can't beat 'em, make some soup."
Stay well and keep in touch. XXOOXXOO
It was great to see you last weekend!
ReplyDeleteGood luck for the bone marrow test today and for the next 5 days beginning on Thursday. I will be thinking of you and will give your regards to NY!
Look forward to catching up when you are home again and sharing photos from my trip (taken with my new camera!)
Lots of love and postive thoughts xxx
thinking of you today - as every day! Jules xx
ReplyDeleteHi Tessa
ReplyDeleteI am an avid reader of your blog just as a daily reminder of the extraordinary resilience of the human spirit in the face of adversity - what a girl... Please bang on my door if you going to your studio - I am usually there - still hanging on to 2 days teaching but I am not sure for how long. Keep healthy and strong for the last burst of chemo - thinking of you.
Love Pipx
Hi T.
ReplyDeletethinking of you and your last big forth battle...it's almost over!
just keep being strong as you are.
We all wait for you to come back but hurry up because a lot of things are changing here at work...you may find the college gone or transformed in the new shopping center with a huge car parking in the tower block.
You may wonder where the college will be moved...well, why do you think there are so many containers outside? Just enough for the staff left over after the clearance and students will follow the lectures from home via internet.
I just hope we will manage to keep the coffee van outside because, apparently, it's going to go as well...
a very big hug.
X B
Hi podcast queen. Ok that's a pathetic segway into the next piece of news. We're launching some pop up shops at college with some external retailers. Staff, students and alumni are invited to submit work for sale alongside them. Anything kicking around the studio? Here's the ad:

Thinking of you Tess! Fingers crossed, and good vibrations moving your way, too. I hope they won't be diminished too much over the Atlantic.
ReplyDeleteJust think - this is the last one!!! Yahooooo!

Hope the last dose is less painless and the light is at the end of the tunnel for you. Here's hoping.
