short and sweet

home lasted just 48 hours. got very sick on wednesday night -spent thursday in the haematology day unit tied to a drip and sleeping. got sent home at 6pm, but by 8pm had a temperature of 38 and taxing it back to Guys again. Readmitted to a single room (thank god for small mercys!) and dripped up again to antibiotics by 9.45... Neutrophils dropped back to zero, so immune system has to restart all over again. It is now saturday afternoon. I am listening to football and having a blood transfusion. Havn't been off this drip since thursday night - antibiotics, saline, potassium, calcium, blood, and generals fluids. Thankfully my line still hanging on in there. Looking grey and thin (and bald). This second lot of chemo has been tough. They have still to identify what is infection. But have had no temperature since coming back in, so hopefully might get back home again the earlier part of this week. From my new window I can see directly across south east london: east dulwich and the road that rises up to home - I can see all the trees of Forest HIll and a local landmark, the mobile phone mast which stands just above Horniman Gardens...Walcott scores for Arsenal. ciao tutti. have a good weekend all.

  1. Oh Tess what a shame ( and what a silly way to say it - sorry!!) Here's hoping to a quick return home. Going out Himalayan Balsam bashing with the conservation group today - I shall imagine they are your leukemia cells and bash 'em hard!

  2. Sorry to hear you're in the down part of the ups and downs, though it sounds like you are focused on the up side of things. The visual connection to home offered by the view must give some comfort. Geoff White is coming down to Whitstable today to help finish off my podcast on his poster. It's bright at the moment and my iPhone said it was going to rain. Maybe there will fish and chips on the front after all. Fingers crossed. Ciao Pesce Tonno

  3. Tessa...you should have gone to Hampstead Heath today, picking all the blackberries to make jams for the winter. Where did your Neutrophils go?
Are they on holiday or what? They must be Italians though, gone by the sea site, sun bedding eating gelato with sun glasses on. I can see them.
Well they better come back to work...those lazy b...

    big hug...B

  5. Following on from above. Geoff came down on Sunday and we had fish and chips in the shelter on top of the slopes. Light drizzle. Manage to get the filming done and the narration. Just saving it as a quicktime movie and hopefully will be up on the web soon. I'll let you know when - so you have some proper TV to watch: TPTV.

  8. So sorry you're back in the pokey again. I hope you're sprung quickly and can go back home to Luigi and Lilly's collective ministrations.

Am packing up now after Miss Universe. I had two girls in the top 5, which made for an exciting night. One of them was the runner up to Miss Mexico, who won. But tomorrow I'm headed back to my normal day to day existence, and am mostly glad for it.

All the best to you. XXOOXXOO
